Prince Harry and Prince William attend the 2023 Diana Awards. Diana Awardsthe only charity established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, celebrates the power of youth to change the world.
Early in the virtual ceremony, which was broadcast on YouTube, Prince William appeared. In part, he said: “Today, we recognize the power of young people to create meaningful change. Congratulations to all of our award recipients. Your achievements are a testament to your personality, passion and determination to make a difference. You are an inspiration to young people everywhere.”
He continued, “For everyone watching, all of these stories remind us of the importance of organizations like the Diana Award. It’s a reminder that when we invest in young people, when we give them the tools and opportunities to make a difference, they can truly change the world. A belief my mother shares, and I’m proud to carry on in her name.”
Later in the video, Prince Harry appears alongside V. Kativu, the 2021 Diana and Legacy Award recipient. Harry tells her that she has inspired many, including himself. “Sometimes it’s easy to question one’s ability to make a difference,” says Harry. “Your view of change for the better as a collective force is very important. When someone applies to be of service, they automatically join that group. No one is ever a conduit for change on their own — each of us has the power to create a more equitable world.”
“As we get together, I am reminded of the deep belief my mother held in the transformative power of young people. I recognized their unique ability to challenge the status quo and push for a more inclusive and compassionate society,” said Prince Harry.
“Her legacy continues to be an inspiration and an example of how we can navigate the complexities of our world today. Many of the many challenges we face disproportionately affect young people. Whether it is climate change, mental health or systemic injustice, the obstacles can sometimes seem overwhelming. But what gives me Hope is the collective strength we have when we work together—strength in the diversity of voices and perspectives they embrace.”
