It was speculated at the time that this project could be CoutureAnd the Bloomberg The report — which also notes that Sony and Disney “They both had financial interests in the game, and were unhappy with the progress under Aspyr”— It certainly makes this seem likely.
Saber had already been involved in the project in an associate capacity, with CEO Matthew Karsh telling investors earlier in the year:
We’re pretty sure the game will be great, but it’s a huge, massive product and massive products require a lot of effort and a lot of time to do good. Especially when you’re talking about a game [that’s] Really old – so old – we basically had to remake that game from scratch.
While that certainly doesn’t bode well for the game – or at least its hopes of making a comeback anytime soon – let’s not forget that the original came out in 2003. It’s not like we can’t wait another year or two for a new version.
