The Red Wings traded Jacob Vrana to the Blues in a transition between the two teams on the outside of the playoff picture, but the Wild, Penguins and Devils were among those looking to cement a playoff push with their acquisitions before the 3 p.m. ET deadline. There was also a player barely It traded, but ended up staying.

Here’s a report on the trades that occurred before the deadline day.
General Manager Chuck Fletcher said he had received an offer from another team at 1:40 PM ET, but that it was contingent on the other team moving forward. When that didn’t happen, he said, the deal was done. Van Riemsdyk will be from the UFA tournament this summer. The Flyers moved Zach McQueen to the Kings and Patrick Brown to the Senators.
Nashville has signed fullback Dante Fabro to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. Washington signed forward Nicholas Op-Koppel to a one-year, $1.225 million contract.
Nick Richie is headed to Calgary and Brett Richie is headed to Arizona. Stecher is also key for the Flames, who have been without injured defenseman Oliver Killington all season.
The defender signed a one-year contract with the Ducks after not getting what he wanted in the off-season. It pays off as he lands with a team stationed in the playoffs and has a chance to show what he can do in the postseason. He will help the Wild play, though he and the rest of the Ducks have had defensive problems this season. Minnesota, who had earlier traded Jordan Greenaway to the Sabers, added center Oscar Sundvist from the Red Wings. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019.

Vrana, who has spent time in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Player this season, is a talented player who has fallen out of favor with Detroit since being traded from D.C. in 2021. The 27-year-old has two points in five NHL games, with 11. In 17 games in the AHL. Vrana has two 20-plus goal seasons in his career and has made $5.25 million for another season. Also heading to the stars is NHL goaltender Dylan Wells, who gave up his 2025 second-round pick and waited for UFA goaltender Anton Khudobin. Domi was traded close to the deadline two years in a row. The deal was not completed in time before Thursday’s game, so Domi sat out the game against the Stars.
Kyle Dubas, general manager of the Maple Leafs, is in the final year of his contract and faces another first-round meeting with the Lightning. If he’s going out, he’s going out swinging. He has made five signings since February 17, taking forwards Ryan O’Reilly, Noel Accuari and Sam Lafferty and reshaping the defense with the addition of Jake McCabe, Eric Gustafson and Luke Shane.
The Coyotes, who traded forward Nick Bjugstad and defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere and Jakob Chychrun, needed to hit the salary cap. So they recently added the contracts of the injured Shea Weber and Jakub Voracek. In addition, they took $2.625 million from Patrick Kane’s salary in the Rangers-Blackhawks trade and kept 50% of Bjögstad’s $900,000 salary when dealing with the Oilers.
