On 28 April 2024, Mr. Somsak Thepsotin, Deputy Prime Minister, revealed that he had the opportunity to meet with the Southern Border Islamic Leaders Association, led by Mr. Halbutaw Heli, President of the Association, where the border provinces were being developed. Mr. Somsak said he had assured the Southern Border Islamic Leaders Association of this and the government welcomed all suggestions. To come up with concrete solutions and as Supervisor of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), he will participate in the development of the Southern Border Provinces. By solving economic problems or solving poverty problems he has issued orders since he assumed his new duties. It even became known that in the SBPAC area there are more than 45,000 low-income families, so there is a policy to promote vocations. “As for education, I would like to emphasize that the government gives full importance to this matter. I had the opportunity to discuss this issue with the Minister of Malaysia. As for the drug problem, I amended the law when I was Minister of Justice in order to increase measures aimed at confiscating the assets of drug traffickers. And because More than 80% of the prison population are minors. We have to break the cycle of drug trafficking through asset confiscation. In the past, before property can be seized, it takes many years but now I am meeting with the Chief Justice to discuss the establishment of a court Appeals for drug cases in order to speed up the trial of drug cases “will be able to help break the cycle of drug trafficking,” Mr. Somsak said.
