Marcus Rashford's performances at Manchester United have had a disappointing season having scored just 7 goals in 33 league appearances, and he has also been plagued by injuries. He was heavily criticized by football fans in the end, there was another gripe that he would not be part of the England squad to play in the Euro 2024 Championship.
Gareth Southgate recently revealed that the reason the 26-year-old striker was left out of the squad was because of his form. He also admits that it was a difficult decision
“Of course this was a difficult decision. We are talking about really good players who have been a big part of what we have done over the years,” Southgate said.
“For Marcus, I think a lot of players in that position have had better seasons. There's just that reason.”
Southgate has called up 12 attacking players for his initial squad, and apart from the wingers, there is also a player who could move to the left wing, in the case of Newcastle's Anthony Gordon, who is in excellent form having scored 21 goals in the Premier League this term. Apart from this, there is Jack Grealish as another option.
As for Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen and Phil Foden, they all play in other positions but can also move to the left flank.
