“I was hit all day with doors open in my face; He was repeatedly beaten, slapped and knocked down by the obnoxious and unapologetic Steve Martin – perhaps acting out – and returned home angry and with a severe headache.

Overall evaluation? Martin was “undoubtedly a genius, but he was terrible to me.”

Martin addressed the allegations in a statement to Deadline:

“When I first read Miriam Margulies’s derogatory description of our scene in the movie Little Shop of HorrorsI was surprised. I remember we had good communication as professional actors. But when it’s implied that I hurt her or was somehow negligent about doing stunts, I have to object. I remember being very careful with the fake punch – the same caution I would use with any similar scene. She assured me she was feeling fine, we made a few successful shots and hung out. there was There was no physical contact between her and me, casual or otherwise, in this scene or any other scene we shot.

Martin noted that there were others.

“Also on set, observing the action, were the highly skilled and sensitive director, Frank Oz, the stunt coordinator, the camera crew, the script supervisor, as well as the extras who witnessed the entire, well-rehearsed scene.”

In support of his account, Martin provided the following recollection from Oz:

“I always rehearse the body movements in slow motion. The scene was supposed to involve a fake punch. It’s confusing what you’re talking about. It’s not the Steve I know or anyone he knows. He’s always been professional and respectful to everyone in all my shots.

Oz and Martin made four films together: Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty rotten bastards, Buffinger And House sitter.
