The demonstrators are protesting the return to power of leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who defeated Bolsonaro in a runoff on October 30, a week ago.

Many photos and videos are going viral on social media. The images show ongoing clashes with police and extensive damage inside occupied buildings.

A group of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro have broken through a blockade set up by police and are now occupying the roof of the building.
Asked by Press Oh GloboFormer Vice President of the Republic Hamilton Mauro described the ongoing invasion of several public buildings in Brasilia as “anarchy”.
These events come two years after the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol in the United States.
