It’s Taylor Swift’s summer. We all just live in it.
During a concert on her Eras Tour in California on Wednesday night, Swift announced the release date of “1989 (Taylor Version),” a re-recording of her 2014 album, “1989.” It will be released on October 27, the same date the original album was released nine years earlier.
It should come as no surprise that fans, both on the field and online, were dumbfounded.
“a surprise!!” Swift wrote on social media. “The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it filled me with great joy when I announced that my copy of it would be released on October 27th.” She added that this was “the most favorite recording I’ve ever done.”
The album includes songs like “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space”.
Swift re-recorded her first six albums to regain control after selling out Master Recordings. In 2019, music executive Scooter Braun bought Big Machine, Swift’s old label — and with it the original recordings from Swift’s first six albums. Swift said at the time that the sale had “stripped me out of my life’s work”.

This album, called “Fearless (Taylor Version)”, came with six additional songs that were not featured on the original “Fearless”, Swift’s 2009 mainstream achievement that won her four Grammy Awards.
Now, Swift is in the middle of her ERAS tour, which has become an international commercial and cultural force this summer, with fans clamoring for tickets and demanding ticket systems be put under strain.
The show on Wednesday night was the sixth at SoFi Stadium outside Los Angeles, and the last on the first US leg of the tour. (More shows in the US are scheduled for fall 2024.)
