An elected official who is considered a racist will return to his post after his removal
A black Tennessee elected official who was ousted from the local legislature for protesting better gun control will temporarily regain his seat after the vote.
Last Thursday, Democrat-elect Justin Jones, like one of his colleagues, who is African-American, was kicked out of the House for joining hundreds of protesters at the Capitol a week earlier. They called for stricter gun controls following the shooting at a Christian school in Nashville.
Nashville council voted Monday night to temporarily reappoint Justin Jones before a special election is held.
The exclusion of these two elected officials has plunged the United States into a bitter political battle between the debate over weapons and accusations of racism. Notably, the third elected Democrat, Gloria Johnson, who is white and threatened to be ostracized for the same reasons, retained her seat — prompting accusations of racism.
President Joe Biden invited three elected officials to the White House.
