A shooting at a Texas school on Tuesday killed at least 21 people – including 18 students – and injured dozens more, Governor Greg Abbott said. An 18-year-old man was also killed in the shooting.
The suspect killed at least 21 people, including an 18-year-old man, 18 children and at least one teacher, at a press conference in Wolde, Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, in a “painful and irrational way.” The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station about 130 miles (130 miles) west of San Antonio.
Earlier in the day, 14 children and an adult were killed.
The shooter first targeted his grandmother, whose health remains unclear, before leaving school, “dropping his car” and entering the building with “pistols” and “guns,” according to the governor. The motives for the attack, one of the worst in a school for many years, are unknown at this time.
Earlier, Wolde Memorial Hospital said on Facebook that it had cared for “13 children” and that two had “died” when they arrived, without mentioning their age. The University Health Hospital in San Antonio said a 66-year-old woman was also in “bad condition” and had “two patients”, an adult and a baby.
The shooting happened at Rob Primary School, which serves children between the ages of 5 and 7 in Wolverhampton. According to state data, more than 500 children of nearly 90% Hispanic descent attended school in the 2020-2021 school year. Videos shared on social media show children being hurriedly evacuated and running in small groups towards yellow school buses.
Frequent shootings
The attack plunged the country back into school shootings, and before being expelled by law enforcement, shocked students listened to their children’s repeated repeated attacks with shocking pictures of themselves being forced to restrain themselves in their classrooms.
