LAFC’s game against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, Major League Soccer’s Opening Day, at the Rose Bowl has been postponed due to “safety considerations resulting from inclement weather,” LAFC announced Friday. Here’s what you need to know:

- League sources said more than 70,000 tickets were sold for Saturday’s game. LAFC added that tickets purchased for the game will be honored upon rescheduling.
- Saturday’s game was the 18th edition of the “El Tráfico” rivalry series, which the LA Galaxy has a 7-5-5 lead. LAFC, the reigning MLS Cup champions, are also scheduled to play the Galaxy on April 16 and September 16.

It is no coincidence that MLS decided to start the season with El Tráfico – this is the biggest and best football rivalry in the league. More than 70,000 fans bought tickets to watch a Saturday night game at the Galaxy’s home, Rose Bowl, between 1996 and 2002. The Galaxy hoped to get revenge on LAFC after the MLS Cup champions beat the Galaxy 3-2 in a thrilling game. Western Conference semifinal games last season.
The Galaxy were set to miss star striker Chicharito on Saturday after the 109-time Mexico international suffered a hamstring injury before the start of the season.
