According to a report from a trusted insider, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 will be limited to current generation consoles only. Rockstar Games is allegedly developing a game that takes full advantage of the new consoles’ advanced capabilities. As a result, gamers using previous generation systems such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are more likely to miss out.
While the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were released in late 2020, a large portion of the gaming community is still waiting to get their hands on either. Rockstar Games may delay the release of the long-awaited sequel due to this reason as well.
GTA 6 will reportedly only be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
According to Tom Henderson, a well-known gaming industry insider, Rockstar Games is stopping the release of GTA 6 due to the limited player base on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
By 2024, these two units should reach the middle of their life cycles. Hopefully, the majority of players will be able to get to either of them by this point. According to Tom, Take Two Interactive Software and Rockstar Games are eyeing a 2024 release for this reason.
This report aligns with the recent speculation of Tez2 from Rockstar Games about the release date of GTA 6 which is set for December 2024 or early 2025.
However, Rockstar has been known to tend to delay its games for about a year after their planned release date. Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are clear examples of this practice. Thus, it is possible that players will have to wait for a longer period.
Rockstar Games has always gone above and beyond with each new game. Considering the stunning design of Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 6 is probably too advanced to work as intended on older consoles. This may be the reason why Rockstar decided to release the game exclusively on current generation hardware, which is noticeably more powerful.
Although the information comes from reliable sources, gamers are urged to take it with caution as Rockstar Games has yet to make an official announcement about the sequel.
