Lost Ark Steam’s wave of bans aimed at cracking down on bot accounts appears to have hit a large number of Steam users with false bans. If you just found out you’ve been banned from Lost Ark despite not playing in a while, you’re not alone – many Valve Storefront users are reporting a ban on Amazon Free game On Steam though it has hardly been played or not played in months. In most cases, it appears that the majority of affected accounts are those that haven’t played the game recently, or have relatively low game time. Players might not have noticed, had it not been for a notification from Steam that they had received a ban. After that, Lost Ark Steam ratings dropped to 52% positive in the last 30 days, with a significant spike in negative reviews on January 14, when players appeared to have been banned. As a fairly casual Lost Ark player who hasn’t logged in in a few months but remains pinned in case I get an itch, my curiosity was naturally piqued. I launch the game, and here is a message waiting for me: “Your account has been permanently banned. If you think you received this penalty by mistake, you can appeal. Reason: cheating.” Obviously, take my word for it for what you feel it’s worth, but I certainly didn’t use any form of bot or cheat while playing.
Some players say their appeals to Amazon Games have already borne fruit, and they report that bans have been lifted after appeal. As such, the user is suggesting that inactive players may have been banned to try and prevent gold farmers from having a potential pool of old accounts to draw from.
Amazon Games and Smilegate have yet to comment on the issue. We’ve also reached out to Valve for comment, due to the nature of player Steam accounts that are marked with a history of being banned, and will update this story with any responses.
Update, January 15th – Smilegate responded on the lost ship forums, saying, “We have identified the bug that caused these bogus bans, and are actively working to reverse it for all legitimate players affected regardless of whether or not a support ticket was submitted.” He adds that players can still appeal the ban to help speedy recovery of your account and removal of penalties.
