The Vikings have completed an interview with Steelers assistant Brian Flores for the open defensive coordinator position, the team announced Thursday.
The Vikings are seeking a replacement for Ed Donatell, whom they fired last week.
Minnesota’s defense was one of the worst in franchise history, with the season ranking 28th in points allowed (25.1) and 31st in yards (388.7).
The team also interviewed Seahawks assistant defensive line coach Sean Desai, co-defensive coordinator/Saints defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen and Vikings assistant head coach Mike Bitten.
Flores completed his first season as the Steelers’ senior defensive assistant and linebacker coach.
He also interviewed with the Cardinals for the head coaching job and defensive coordinator jobs with the Browns and Falcons.
Flores’ NFL career includes working in the Patriots’ personnel department and as an assistant. The Patriots won four Super Bowls during Flores’ tenure with New England (XXXIX, XLIX, LI, and LIII). He also served as the head coach of the Dolphins from 2019-21.
