300 Haitian immigrants wander near a luxury club in Florida
This is the third time in a week that US authorities have detained Haitian immigrants trying to reach the United States.

About 300 Haitian immigrants arrived in Florida, South America, on Sunday in a wooden boat stranded near a luxury private club, local officials said.
The Ocean Reef Club, a luxury private club located in North Key Largo, in the southern tip of the Keys archipelago in Florida, was previously stranded at 1:00 pm GMT (2:00 pm Swiss time). The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said, The “Miami Herald” was quoted.
“According to initial reports, the people involved in this kidnapping case are Haitians,” the Coast Guard said on Twitter. “Some 300 immigrants, many of whom needed medical attention,” said Walter N., a U.S. customs patrol manager. Sloser said on Twitter.
Third time in a week
At least 163 of them swam ashore, and the officer who posted the photo of the ship, crowded and heavily listed. Another shot shows about 20 people covered in towels, on shore, near wet clothes. U.S. Customs and Border Security has announced an investigation.
This is the third time in a week that US authorities have detained Haitian immigrants trying to reach the United States. On Friday, a group of 123 people were arrested by the Coast Guard on a small boat in Anguilla Cay (western Bahamas). Last Sunday, the latter intercepted more than 140 people on Andros, the Bahamas’ largest island.
Human traffickers use the Bahamas – an archipelago about 80 km off the coast of Florida – often as a jumping point for smuggling people from other Caribbean countries such as Haiti to the United States.
