Elon Musk’s attacks on Dr Fauci deemed ‘dangerous’
Donald Trump and later Joe Biden’s adviser on the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Fassi continues to be the target of violent attacks and has already received death threats.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre on Monday called Elon Musk’s attacks on Anthony Fauci, Joe Biden’s outgoing adviser on the Covid-19 pandemic, “incredibly dangerous.”
He added that the comments from the wealthy boss of Twitter and Tesla were “rebellious and disconnected from reality,” after Elon Musk called for the immunologist to be prosecuted for alleged crimes in his public action.
“My pronouns are Inculpez/Fauci,” the wealthy businessman wrote, a move frowned upon by some American conservatives — some Americans who introduce themselves by referring to the pronouns associated with their gender identity.
Under police protection
He also posted a meme showing Dr Fauci telling the US president, “Another lockdown, my king”, in an open criticism of past measures to combat Covid-19. The tweet quickly went viral and has already attracted a lot of criticism.
Republican lawmakers have threatened to go after Anthony Fauci on Covid vaccines, mandatory mask-wearing and other measures related to the pandemic when he takes control of the House of Representatives in January.
An adviser to Republican President Donald Trump and later to Democrat Joe Biden, the scientist found himself at the center of America’s sometimes most violent debate over how to respond to the pandemic. He received death threats and was given police protection in spring 2020.
The 81-year-old immunologist is to step down as the president’s adviser on infectious diseases this month. He will step down later this year as director of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIAID), a position he held for 38 years.
