Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon
Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was charged in 2018 with lying while filling out forms to obtain a gun.
US President Joe Biden’s son Hunter has pleaded not guilty to illegal weapons charges, his attorney said in documents released Tuesday. Hunter Biden, 53, was charged in 2018 with lying while filling out forms to get a gun, in which he denied drug addiction, which he later admitted.
His attorney, Abe David Lowell, in a letter to Judge Christopher Burke, who lives in California (West), asks his client to allow his first appearance far away, not in Delaware, where the court is located. “Mr. Biden will plead not guilty, and there’s no reason why he can’t say those two words via video conference,” his adviser assures.
His impeachment in the case came on September 14, two days after the start of impeachment proceedings against the Democratic president by the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. Conservative MPs accuse Hunter Biden of using his father’s networks and name to make questionable deals in Ukraine and China.
The contract was cancelled
But they go even further by questioning possible ulterior motives for the pressure Joe Biden put on Kiev as Barack Obama’s vice president to fire Ukrainian Attorney General Viktor Sokin.
The prosecutor was fired in 2016, following coordinated US efforts with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which he accused of covering up corruption and undermining government reforms.
Hunter Biden reached a plea deal in June with prosecutor David Weiss on charges of both tax evasion and illegal gun possession that could have allowed him and his father to avoid an embarrassing trial and jail time.
But the deal was struck down in July after a judge expressed doubts about the validity of the arrangement. His father’s predecessor, Donald Trump, and many other Republicans have made Hunter Biden one of their favorite targets, seeing him as Joe Biden’s Achilles heel.
