LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — A total of 21 cases of Urubusch fever have been reported in a group of American travelers who returned from Cuba, according to the latest data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Oropuche is an arthropod-borne virus that has emerged in the Americas. It has reported outbreaks in areas that have not previously experienced the disease. Deaths and mother-to-fetal transmission have been linked to complications of recent pregnancy. This raises concerns about the risk to human health.

Of the 21 cases of Oropuche fever in the United States, most showed symptoms and went away on their own, while at least three had symptoms return, the CDC said. After the initial symptoms disappeared

The CDC is calling on health professionals and public health agencies to monitor U.S. travelers for outbreaks of oroposh fever and to test suspected patients for the disease. It added that travelers should be wary of insect bites while traveling. Pregnant women should consider postponing travel to areas where oroposh fever is common.
