The Ukrainian army is “advancing” on the frontline despite “strong resistance” from Russian troops, particularly in southern Ukraine, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Khanna Maliar assured Thursday. He said during a press conference that Ukrainian forces have advanced “more than three kilometers” in the Pakmud area (east) in the past ten days. In the south, he spoke of “gradual but certain progress” by Ukrainian soldiers “despite the enemy (there) putting up strong resistance.” In this piece, he lists “Ukrainian armed forces facing mass mining of fields”, “use of kamikaze drones” and “intense bombing”. Around Bakhmaut, “the enemy is currently amassing additional reserves” to block the advance of Ukrainian troops and has moved an assault unit there from the south, Ms. Maliar assured.
In total, the Ukrainian army occupied “more than 100 square kilometers” in a week of fighting, Oleksiï Gromov, an officer of the Ukrainian army for his part, confirmed during a press conference. In the southwest of eastern Donetsk region, the Ukrainians advanced to a depth of about three kilometers near the Mala Dokhmatchka region and “up to seven kilometers” south of Velika Novosilka.
