And according to ticket broker StubHub, attending the four women’s finals this year will cost more money than attending the men’s.
As of this writing, Lowest ticket price to attend both women’s matches Friday $428 before fees. the Lowest price to go to men’s matches On Saturday it’s $40. A year ago, that was basically the opposite: The cheapest tickets for the 2022 Women’s Championship Final Four ranged from $97 to $130. Depending on the supplierwhile the cheapest tickets for the 2022 men’s Final Four cost $368, Per TickPick.
Fourth pitch capacity
More people watched the Women’s Championship this year than ever before.
“I think the most exciting part about it is being a part of history,” LSU guard Alexis Morris said Thursday. “We’re literally watching the game grow and change right in front of our faces, and playing a huge part in it. It’s an honor, and I’m so excited to be a part of it.”
The Dallas Mavericks home arena at the American Airlines Center will host the Women’s Final Four With a capacity of approximately 20,000 seats, while the men will play at NRG Stadium, where the NFL’s Houston Texans play. NRG also hosted the 2016 Men’s Final, Where 74,340 people attended.
This is a significant difference in the number of tickets available. So while there seems to be more interest in women’s games, there are also a lot less chances of attendance, which helps push up the price.
One drawback to the expensive women’s tickets is the cost of attending for the players’ families. LSU’s Angel Reese said Thursday that the high prices are “exciting” because of the level of interest, but noted that it’s hard to get more tickets for loved ones to watch. LSU coach Kim Mulkey expanded on that.
“angel [Reese] Right: These young women and their families should sit high, Mulkey said. “I would like to see their families be able to sit low and buy those tickets or keep a section for families where they can go and hug them afterwards.”
A women’s quad final full of talent
The star power of each Final Four can also play a role in pricing.
The women’s team features the best teams and most notable players, led by a matchup between No. 2 seed Iowa State and No. 1 seed South Carolina. The Hawkeyes are led by Naismith Player of the Year Caitlin Clark, while 2022 winner and presumptive WNBA No. 1 draft pick Aliyah Boston plays for the Gamecocks. The other game should also be exciting with Reese and #3 seed LSU versus #1 seed Virginia Tech.
The men’s team is a messy, unheard of mix of first-time finalists and former juggernauts. Encounters aren’t nearly as attractive.
In 2022, the men’s Final Four competition includes Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, and Villanova — all strong programs with huge fanbases and a history of championships. It also marked what ended up being legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final game with Duke and Jay Wright’s final game with Villanova.
This year, there’s a matchup between No. 9 seed Florida Atlantic and No. 5 seed San Diego State, two teams that have never won an NCAA tournament game or never advanced beyond the Sweet 16 prior to this year. Then there’s No. 4-ranked UConn, which appears to be the favorite to win it all, and No. 5-ranked Miami, which is also a Final Four.
Another way to look at it: Five former women’s McDonald’s All Americans will play in the Women’s Final Four, while the men’s games won’t feature a former McDonald’s All American for the first time since 1979, ESPN.
