Zurich falls from the podium of the world’s most pleasant cities – rts.ch

Zurich has slipped to 6th in The Economist’s ranking of the world’s most liveable cities, up from 3rd in 2022. Geneva has moved up from sixth to seventh.

This year, Zurich and Geneva lose some feathers in city rankings conducted by “The Economist Intelligence Unit,” the research and analysis arm of British weekly The Economist.

However, Switzerland’s two main financial centers retained their places in the top 10. Zurich ranked 6th and Geneva 7th out of a total of 172 rated cities.

The index is based on 30 qualitative and quantitative criteria in the following areas: sustainability, health system, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

In terms of education, both Swiss cities are doing better than last year, going from a score of 91.7 (out of 100) to 100, the study’s authors note.

As of 2022, the Austrian capital Vienna has topped the rankings. It offers an almost ideal combination of these five factors and is penalized only by the lack of major sporting events. It is followed by Copenhagen in 2nd place.

On the other hand, ratings in terms of stability have declined in many cities, particularly in Europe, where demonstrations have meant more. Cities in Asia and Oceania made the most progress over the year: Wellington (New Zealand) ranked 35th, Hanoi (Vietnam) 20th, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) 19th.

Soft Belly is made up of many Chinese cities. Kiev, Ukraine marks a return to the rankings in 2023, but is now ranked 165th, while Damascus, Syria has been the world’s least liveable city since 2015.
